May/June News from Scott
SCOTT MACMILLAN NEWS & GIGS
May and June 2007
May and June will see a slowing down in Scott’s performance schedule and shifting to a composing and gardening schedule. Even with this cool spring it’s time to think of vegetables in the garden. Re-emerging periodically Scott will make his 1st appearance at the Stan Rogers Festival at the end of June. He is looking forward to joining all the fabulous musicians who will be performing this year.
Scott will begin creating his musical commemorative composition of the sinking of HMCS Esquimalt of which his father was Commanding Officer. Scott and his son Ian have traveled to Esquimalt BC, PEI, Toronto, Lunenburg, and to the actual site of the sinking of HMCS Esquimalt, 2 ½ hours off Halifax between Chebucto Head and the Eastern Shore aboard the Navy Tug ‘Glenevis’. They met survivors, rescuers, widows, family members and family friends. They listened to and filmed firsthand accounts of that ill-fated day, April 16, 1945. They laid wreaths. They even met a man from the German U-boat 190 that sank the Esquimalt. Much has been learned much has been shared and felt between Scott, Ian and all of these people. So now it is time for Scott to let the muse take over and compose “Within Sight of Shore”.

Tune of the Month: Head for the Helmsman (upswing jazz tune )
This is a tune I’ve played with ‘Scott ‘n the Rocks’ and I composed it for my father who was the navigating officer serving on board the HMCS Dunver during WWII. The theme for this tune comes from another piece dedicated to him entitled ‘The Navigator’.
Check the sheet music out on Scott’s web page http://www.scottmacmillan.ca/books.html#tunes
See/hear him play Ever Lovin’ Strathspey in his video clips at http://www.myspace.com/scottmacmillan
