‘WITHIN SIGHT OF SHORE’ NEWS:

On Saturday September 15, 2012 at 11:00am Maine Public Broadcasting Network; (MPBN) Community Film Series will air Ian Macmillan’s evocative film ‘Within Sight of Shore.’

This double 2012 East Coast Music Award winning Documentary Within Sight of Shore explores in music and film the tragic story of the sinking of HMCS Esquimalt, the last Canadian warship sunk in WWII, 66 years ago, April 16, 1945. The Esquimalt was torpedoed in the approaches of Halifax Harbour, within sight of shore. Scott’s father, Ian’s grandfather and Charlottetown’s own LCdr Robert C. Macmillan, Distinguished Service Cross (DSC) and Bar, Royal Canadian Naval Volunteer Reserve (RCNVR), Division Charlottetown was the commanding officer on that fateful day that would see the loss of 44 of its 71 crewmen.
